Houston’s Astragal Return With An Impact

Sometimes you can catch a band in person, and they simply blow you away. When we caught Houston’s Astragal the first time, two of the three members were still underage, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t playing beyond their years. One of the most dynamic new bands to come out of the rain drenched city, Astragal has had a pretty impressive year with multiple tours and festival appearances. On their latest single “Bloomer” found exclusively here, they add depth to their already engaging sound.

Where Astragal used to have a more dream pop indie rock guise, this new track incorporates more of the post-punk flirtations the trio had used in the past. The hushed vocals barely lie atop the thundering bass and the snappy drums, while the guitar adds shimmering notes that sound like a hazy memory. More sonic, more dynamic, and more concise, the three piece really comes into their own on the track, offering up what their next record will more than likely sound like.

“Bloomer” is available to stream above as much as you’d like. The song drops digitally in October and a 7″ will be available from Wallflower Records in December. You can swoon over Astragal in person when they go on a mini-tour of Texas with Rose Ette. The tour begins in Austin on October 4 at Hotel Vegas, in Houston at Dan Electros on October 5 and runs until October 6 in Denton.
