Johnny Marr will always be associated with his time in The Smiths, though his latest solo works help to start distancing from that time thirty years ago. Marr has always been a stellar songwriter and guitarist, showcased recently on his latest solo album Call The Comet. While the album is a mix of pretty notes and catchy riffs, his latest single “Jeopardy” really ups the ante on what Marr does on his own.
The guitar squeals and rattles while Marr adds vocals that shimmer. The stride of the song is one that you won’t forget, and in many ways the song is similar to the work of bands like Manic Street Preachers and Primal Scream without sounding like either were copied. With “Jeopardy” Marr proves he can still surprise us while showing off his guitar and songwriting skills.
“Jeopardy” is available to stream on all platforms, and the B-side from a vinyl release is available to purchase in digital store fronts. Johnny Marr is on tour throughout North American now, with his next performance taking place at Gundlach Bundschu Winery in Sonoma on September 28, and he will end his tour at Trix Club in Belgium on December 7.
