Chicago’s The Sea and Cake have never really followed the rules of the music industry. This could be best displayed by their intriguing indie rock-influenced with hints of jazz, Brazilian music, and indie pop-with myriads of traditional American pop structures. Behind their newest record Any Day, the band had toured quite a bit including tours outside of the U.S. and dates at Primavera Sound.
The band’s use of intricate guitar and soft sided vocals all over their eleventh album, make these dates worthy of your time. The bulk of Any Day is an album that should make you happy you gave it a listen, and tracks like “Cover the Mountain,” “Any Day,” and “Paper Window” should stay with you after you first hear them. This is The Sea and Cake at their strongest, and their live shows are almost always extraordinary.
You can stream the band’s catalog wherever you stream music, you can purchase their music from Bandcamp or directly from Thrill Jockey Records. You can catch The Sea and Cake on these limited Midwest dates, starting in Chicago at the Empty Bottle on November 17 and ending at Grog Shop in Cleveland on November 20.
