It seemed pretty likely that a solid label would pick up the folky sounds of Atlanta’s Faye Webster at some point. Webster has made quite the name for herself as a singer songwriter, as a photographer, and as an artist immersed in the hip hop world of Atlanta. Now, signed to Secretly Canadian, Webster has a new track and it’s pretty glorious. On “Kingston,” she takes her folk heavy sound and melds it with R&B notes and a bit of hip hop vibe.
Webster opens with her voice at the forefront of the track, complete with a hip hop drum and a pedal steel guitar. It immediately catches your attention with the way its structured, almost like an R&B track with completely different instrumentation. The backing vocals add a chill depth while guitar noodling and horns take you back in time before Webster’s voice pulls you closer and closer.
You can stream the track on all platforms, or you can purchase it in digital store fronts or from Bandcamp. Faye Webster will be on tour starting January 15 at Louisiana in Bristol, U.K. until April 30 in Miami at The Fillmore Miami Beach. A complete list of her tour dates ac be found here.
