It seems that Phoebe Bridgers can do pretty much whatever she wants, and it’ll be golden. The last year alone, we’ve seen her release a debut full length that warmed our hearts, form a super group with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus while releasing an E.P. under the name Boygenius, then tour pretty nonstop. Today, she released a new song with none other than Jackson Browne, and it’s just as stunning. In fact, in many ways, “Christmas Song” is about the best holiday track we’ve heard in a good while, even if it’s a cover of a McCarthy Trenching track.
Opening with a haunting yet endearing piano, the track should immediately take you into the head space of the holidays. Bridgers’ vocals come in, beautiful as always, and steer the track like the driver of an eighteen wheeler with a hefty payload. Browne comes in and adds the soulful accompanying vocals that you’d expect from the legendary singer. The two pair together nicely, Browne adding just enough to the track to make it the perfect duet.
You can stream the song on all streaming platforms, you can purchase it in all digital store fronts or directly from the Dead Oceans Bandcamp page. Phoebe Bridgers will be on tour with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker tonight in San Diego at The Observatory North Park and tomorrow night in Los Angeles at The Wiltern.
