We caught Manchester Orchestra and The Front Bottoms the other night and we were shocked for multiple reasons. For starters, The Front Bottoms seemed to have a rolling cast of performers, that in-between songs would sit at a makeshift bar prop they had on stage. As they frolicked through their set, including refilling beers for those in the front rows, they sounded more full than in past live sets.
Of course, the more shocking thing was that Manchester Orchestra went hard. Yes, they played your favorite slower tracks from last year’s A Black Mile To The Surface, like “The Maze” and “The Gold.” But, they did so with a more heavy vibe. They were pretty straight rock from open to close, playing a set with more energy that felt closer to a tour in support of Cope than for this latest release. The crowd, didn’t mind, as they sang along with every song, and greeted the Atlanta group with praise in the packed house.
You can stream the catalog from Manchester Orchestra on all streaming platforms, you can purchase it in all digital shops, or directly from the Manchester Orchestra store or from Loma Vista Recordings. Manchester Orchestra still has plenty of tour dates left. Tomorrow night they will be in Detroit at The Fillmore until December 18 in Lowell, Mass at Tsongas Center. A complete list of their remaining tour dates can be accessed here.
