Whether you’re ready or not, Robert Ellis will be releasing Texas Piano Man very soon. The album, consisting of Ellis’ tickling of the ivories and transferring his songwriting to a whole new instrument sounds like it’s going to be one for the ages. So far, the songs that have been released show an artist in full transformation, and we’re loving every note of it. With his latest, “Nobody Smokes Anymore,” Ellis takes steps closer to evoking the sound of artists like Randy Newman and Harry Nilsson, while keeping his signature vocals as a stamp on the song’s authenticity.
The ending result is a sound that’s difficult to beat. Robert Ellis isn’t posturing at all, he’s taking bold new steps at becoming a broader and more focused artist that’s inching away from his country music past into full throttled songwriting royalty. The track has plenty of seventies piano rock touches, but this isn’t a lift, it’s unadulterated artistry at its best.
You can stream the song on all streaming sites, you can purchase it in all digital shops, or you can preorder Texas Piano Man directly from Robert Ellis or from New West Records before its release date of February 14. Robert Ellis will be on tour beginning March 23 at VZD’s in Oklahoma City until April 13 at Homegrown Festival in Dallas, TX. A complete listing of his tour dates can be accessed here.
