Australia’s Stella Donnelly seems to have it all and then some. After a strong 2018, she’s hit the ground running ahead of her full length debut Beware of the Dogs due in early March. Donnelly has dropped two singles and both show how diverse she is as an artist, making us excited to her what the album will sound like.
With the newest single, “Lunch” Donnelly goes for a more tender and personal sound and it’s a mixture of lovely notations and melodic notes that dance together in the most splendid manner. Steering from the traditionally slower side of such music, there’s a nice meeting of lo-fi and high end musicianship on the track, making it just stick to your head a bit stronger.
The first single, “Old Man” has a more playful side, heading a bit closer to a twee pop sound. It’s a nice showcasing of Donnelly’s vocals while the hook filled pop structuring isn’t quick, but rather a slower uptick of sounds that you won’t soon forget. Both songs are distanced a bit from her last offering, but not in a bad way as it just sounds like her songwriting has matured in the time between the two.
You can stream both songs on all streaming platforms, you can purchase them on all digital shops, or you can preorder Beware of the Dogs directly from Secretly Canadian before the album’s release date of March 08. Stella Donnelly is set to tour beginning March 06 at Golden Age Cinema & Bar in Surry Hills, Australia until August 17 in Crickhowell, U.K. at Green Man Festival.
