There’s a good chance that you’ve never heard of Turning Jewels Into Water, but their music is like nothing else you’ve heard before. Mixing in ritualistic styles and MIDI controllers alongside record scratches and polyrhythmic percussion, their sound is easily one of the most inventive things you’ll hear for a minute. Their new track “Dark waters rushing in” is a great way to introduce you to what they do.
The track has a feel that’s future while incorporating so much of the past. With a trip hop feel that has a traditional vibe, the song reminds you of so much without feeling tired or rehashed. The duo is definitely treading their own path, and bring a lot to the table as far as what sounds like no one else.
You can stream the track on all streaming sites, including on YouTube, or you can preorder their upcoming album Map of Absensces directly from FPE Records before its release date of March 15. You can catch Turning Jewels Into Water on tour beginning February 25 in Montclair, NJ at 73 See Gallery until October 20 at Anacosita Arts Center in Washington, D.C. A complete listing of their tour can be accessed here.
