For the past year, Volume 2 of the Devinyl Splits series with Kevin Devine and others has trucked along with a steady stream of magical songs. With this latest being the last in this version of the series, The Front Bottoms step in and drop a cover of Kevin Devine’s “Just Stay” featuring Devine on the track as well. A bit different from the rest of the series, the chaotic track sounds like another winner worthy of your time.
The way the guitar seers underneath the vocals here, sounding like it was recorded live is pretty hard not to like. There’s a nice bubbling of feedback while the bass helps steer the track, having a nice sonic intensity before the organ comes in and takes the song to a whole new space. There’s plenty of weight in the emotional vocals, offering a new way to experience the song’s intensity.
You can stream the song on all streaming sites, you can purchase digitally in all online music shops or you can get it physically from Bad Timing Records. Kevin Devine will be on tour starting May 09 in College Park, MD at MilkBoy Art House until May 17 in Hamden, CT at Space Ballroom. A complete list of his tour ca be found here. The Front Bottoms are not on tour at this time, but you can purchase their music from their online shop.
