The National have always done things their own way while never really sticking to any one format. Albums like High Violet and Trouble Will Find Me were made by the same players, but sound very different from one another. It’s an exercise that works when you make the kind of quality music that these guys create.Ahead of their upcoming album I Am Easy To Find due in May, the band released their first new single and it’s definitely a track that shows how diverse the band can get when wanted.
The opening of “You Had Your Soul With You” features a digitally manipulated guitar track that creates this almost discord between the sounds created and the instrument itself. There’s something that’s so what they do while still treading new territory with the track, that’s it’s hard to turn away from. Featuring vocals from Gail Ann Dorsey, the song is a reminder that The National can still craft magic when they want, while giving us a song we can all gravitate towards.
You can stream the song on all streaming sites, you can purchase it in all digital outlets, or you can pre-order I Am Easy To Find on multiple formats directly from 4AD Records before its release date of May 17. The National will be on tour in support of the album beginning April 16 in Paris, France at Olympia until December 05 at Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany.
