Last year we somehow missed the music of Amos Lee. In the crowded music spaces, we stumbled across his work-his latest being My New Moon, and we were sad that we didn’t gravitate to his folk fueled sounds sooner. The Philadelphia native mixes touches of soul and pop into his music, and rumor has it that his live shows are magical in their own right.
The album is full of tones that tug at your soul, mixed with catchy undertones that make the songs pop with life. The way that Lee adds soul to the tracks-primarily in how he sings them-is pretty masterful as well. The opener “No More Darkness, No More Light” is such a gem that it should draw you into the album. The whole record is an exercise in catchy pop folk that will hold your ears. Highlights include the soul pop of “Little Light,” the meandering Americana touches of “Crooked” and the electronic mixed soul of “Don’t Give A Damn Anymore.” The album definitely shakes your insides while giving you plenty of music to calm your senses. Amos Lee takes his blend of genres and crafts his own sound in the process, making the album hard not to repeat.
You can stream My New Moon on all streaming platforms or purchase it from digital music shops or in multiple physical formats and bundles from Dualtone Music. Amos Lee is on tour tonight in Houston, TX at Revention Music Center until September 02 in Morrison, CO at Red Rocks. A complete listing of his available dates can be accessed here.
