The New Single by Florida Man is Searing Punk Intensity

The place punk music is in right now is pretty glorious. The old days of wearing a uniform are primarily gone, and we’re left with bands that go dark, hard and deep. One of the most ignited new bands in punk is South Carolina’s Florida Man. Evoking much of the punk energy that previous noise punks have made, their new single “Brain Cell” off of their upcoming album Tropical Depression due in May is a searing reminder of what the genre can still be.

The pummeling guitars hit you like a ton of bricks offering plenty of howling intensity while getting heavier and heavier with each playing note. In many ways they can remind you of artists like Hot Snakes or Unwound while not reminding you of either. Their sound is their own, with nuggets of noise thrown in to the fevered pacing of the song. It’s the kind of punk rock we’ll take more of, snappy and dark, intense and without frills.

You can stream “Brain Cell” above all you’d like or you can pre-order Tropical Depression on two different very limited edition vinyls directly from Spartan Records before its release on May 03. Florida Man is on tour May 03 in Charleston, SC at The Royal American until August 28 in Asheville, NC at The Odditorium.
