There’s a good chance you don’t know the name Kaya Wilkins, but a better chance you’ll know her by her stage name, Okay Kaya. Last year’s Both was a gloomy groundwork that was hard to walk away from. Now after signing to Jagjaguwar, she’s dropped her first single-a cover of the Cher classic “Believe,” and you have to hear it.

What’s so extraordinary about the track is that Okay Kaya makes the song her own. Her rendition of it is scaled differently with a completely new pacing and time signature that causes you to essentially hear the song for the first time. With her voice leading the way at the top of the mix, she definitely signals the best way to cover someone else’s material without making the song sound exactly like the original.
