New York’s Interpol definitely feels refreshed as a band goes. Last year’s Marauder proved that they were back without really going anywhere, while the tours that followed had them performing stronger than they had in years. Now with a new E.P. titled A Fine Mess due in the middle of May, they’ve shared the second single off of it with “The Weekend,” and it’s a doozy.
The song, much like the previous single “Fine Mess” has the band returning to their earlier post-punk leanings with more sonic heft. The song’s pacing is upbeat while the way the guitar cuts through the drums and the bass is masterful and almost magical. It’s high energy without the chaos, showing that Interpol can still “bring it” when they want to.
You can stream “The Weekend” on all streaming sites, you can purchase it in all digital music stores, or you can pre-order A Fine Mess bundled or vinyl or compact disc directly from Matador Records ahead of its May 17 release. Interpol will be back on tour starting tonight at Lollapalooza Chile in Santiago, Chile until August 02 in Montreal, QC at Osheaga Festival. A complete listing of their upcoming performances can be accessed here.
