Sun June Proves That Sometimes, Two Songs Are Enough

When we fell upon finding the music of Austin’s Sun June, we were completely removed by the fact that while the band makes essentially pop songs, the beauty of how they’re crafted is something else entirely. While last year’s full length Years is a stunning reminder of what beautifully penned music can still be, their latest release Younger is just as mesmerizing. Though just two of the tracks are new while the other two of the four song drop are demos, the strength behind the two new songs should melt your heart while they blow your mind.

The slow ascent of opener “NYC” immediately gives you the heft of what the five piece brings to their sound. Powerfully strong vocals, wonderfully crafted songwriting and just enough sweetness to hold your attention. The song gives you just enough to keep you listening while the weight of Laura Colwell’s voice tugs at your soul with its intense power. However, with that the second track “Monster Moon” showcases what the band has become best known for, their blend of instrumentation against the guise of pop music. Away from seventies a.m. radio, such a sound hasn’t existed in a good while. The song is definite pop, but it’s so stunning, it has so much acumen that it’s another catchy scope of the breadth of the songs this band makes together. Adding the demos for “Young” and “I’ve Been” off Years is a nice touch as well, rounding out the four song release and offering insight to how fleshed out their songs are before they’re laid to vinyl.

You can stream Younger on all streaming sites, you can purchase it in all digital music stores, or you can pick it up from the Keeled Scales Bandcamp. Sun June will be on tour in Europe beginning April 03 in Luxembourg, LU at De Gudde Wellen until April 14 in Varese, IT at Twiggy. A complete list of their shows is available here
