When you first hear the opening riffs off of “(I BLAME) SOCIETY,” the new single from Titus Andronicus, you can’t help but feel the energy of the track. The first song from their upcoming album An Obelisk produced by Husker Du’s Bob Mould, the song hits with the searing precision you’d expect. The album won’t be out until late June, but the song should excite you for what it will be like.
The lyric video isn’t as harsh as the song, but the subject matter shouldn’t be lost on anyone who sees it. Shot in Washington, D.C. there’s plenty of poltics involved. But, we should want more music that points the camera back at our world for what we’re experiencing in our nation today. The song works on multiple levels as does the video, making us get amped for the rest of the release that should be swimming in punk fury.
You can stream the song on all streaming sites, you can purchase it in all digital music retailers or pre-order the album directly from Merge Records ahead of its June 21 release. Titus Andronicus will be on tour beginning June 21 at Rough Trade in Brooklyn, NY until July 28 at PhilMOCA in Philadelphia, PA. A complete list of the band’s appearances can be accessed here.
