Earlier this year we wrote about the new screamo band Overo featuring members of football, etc., Perfect Future and more who teamed up for something different. With a tour in place and a debut self-titled album ready for release next week, the band has just shared their debut single “Pink and Black Oak,” and it’s intense.
The assault of guitars and drums that wallow through the opening are offset with a muddy bass line that gets cut by rhythm changes and Lindsay Minton’s vocals. When things get a bit more melodic, it’s only for a short period before things ramp back up and the sheer force of the track gets going again. The dual vocals add a nice touch, giving the words more weight and the song a more powerful force. The drum work on the track is just as intense as the screaming, offering up a modern take on what screamo can be when it’s put in the right hands.
The song can be streamed on all streaming sites and Overo can be pre-ordered directly from Middle-Man Records ahead of its June 13 release. Overo will be on tour beginning tonight in Houston, TX at Dan Electros until June 25 in Denton, TX at J&J’s Pizza. A complete listing of their current tour dates can be accessed here.
