Houston’s Khruangbin can’t be slowed down it seems. The globetrotting trio rarely takes time to stop touring and even between jaunts of recording new material, they just keep going and going. With the success of last year’s Con Todo El Mundo, the band has just announced a dub version of the album titled Hasta El Cielo due in July. The re-imagined record will not only feature the record in dub form, but will also feature two new dubs by Jamaican producer Scientist. Today they released “Mary Always,” the first single from the new release.
The track is similar to the original, just with a dub texture that makes it also very different. At first it seems the same until those textures bleed in and show that the track is its own thing entirely. Khruangbin doesn’t bludgeon you with the dub washing, but they rather let it float in like an apparition that’s there to calm you rather than give you bad dreams.
“Mary Always” can be streamed wherever you stream music, it can be purchased from all digital music outlets and Hasta El Cielo can be pre-ordered physically directly from Dead Oceans. Khruangbin will be on tour June 19 in Port Chester, NY at The Capitol Theatre until November 15 in Sao Paulo, Brazil at Popload Festival.
