Ian Svenonius has definitely been a busy guy since The Make-Up disbanded twenty years ago. With jaunts in multiple bands, his own web show and more, the front man has kind of done it all. Now with Rich Morel, the duo has dropped their first seven inch single under the name Too Much and “Patent Leather” hits exactly how you’d expect it to.
What makes the song stand out is how not only electronic it sounds, but the fact that it’s also something from these two you can immediately notice. With the throwback vibes of the song mixed with Svenonius’ signature vocals, the track not only pops but also brings its own take on modular based music. There’s more here than just that, complete with guitars and an almost garage nuance that causes you to fall for the song and place it on repeat.
“Patent Leather” is available to stream on all streaming sites and it can be purchased digitally wherever you buy music online. The physical 7″ vinyl is available for pre-order directly from Merge Records ahead of its July 12 release.
