Belle and Sebastian seem to be getting better with age. Their last release, a series of EP’s gave us plenty of wonderful music while growing their sound. Now, with a movie for the book Days of the Bagnold Summer coming next year, the band has scored its soundtrack and the lead single “Sister Buddha” checks every box for what a great song is.
With the melodic jangle and upbeat pacing that the band became known for in their earlier years, the song opens like a fresh rain when the ground is thirsty. The way the vocals tenderly intertwine with the instrumentation makes the song have an airy feel. The magical stride in the song’s time signature is something else, creating a sunny sound without ever getting too sugary.
The single is available to stream on all streaming sites, it can be purchased in all digital music stores and Days of the Bagnold Summer can be pre-ordered in physical formats directly from Matador Records ahead of its September 13 release. Belle and Sebastian are on tour tonight in Sheffield, UK at The Leadmill until November 06 in Lisbon, Portugal at Aula Magna. A complete list of their tour appearances can be found here.
