Sometimes a band can come along and add their own nuance to a genre. It’s a rarity yet that’s what New York’s Stolen Jars has always done. With their new single “Winona” from their upcoming album A Reminder due in September, they not only add new touches to indie rock, but they carve their own path at the same time.
There’s a lot happening here on the song, complete with different sounds you may not know how to place. With group vocals and keys opening things up, the electronics that find their way onto the song and the guitar noodling are truly extraordinary. There’s a softness to the song that gets stripped away with all of the instrumentation, but that’s not a bad thing. The up and happy-go-lucky tones of the song keep it n your head, the way the female leads vocals dance in are wondrous and the lead male vocals offer a nice duality against the percussive elements. It’s different and spacey, expansive and large and about as catchy as a song can get without trying to be as such.
“Winona” is available to stream wherever you stream music, it can be purchased in all online music stores and A Reminder is available for pre-save ahead of its September 06 release date. Stolen Jars will be on tour starting September 05 in Philadelphia, PA at Boot and Saddle until October 11 in Washington, DC at Comet Ping Pong. The band’s complete tour listings can be found here.
