When you think of gothic folk music, the name Chelsea Wolfe should definitely come to mind. Wolfe has been making stirring sounds for a good while, and her new single “American Darkness” from her upcoming album Birth of Violence shows how far she can take the genre.
Softer and more strained in its approach, the song has this element of darkness that falls underneath the track’s tones. Like a thief in the night, the mixture of piano and synths with Wolfe’s vocals and an acoustic above them all creates a sound that will haunt you while also stirring your soul.
The video can be viewed above or on YouTube, the single can be streamed on all streaming sites or purchased in all online music stores. Birth of Violence is available for pre-order directly from Sargent House ahead of its September 13 release. Chelsea Wolfe will be performing an acoustic tour beginning August 31 at Pasadena Daydream Festival in Pasadena, CA until November 21 at Vogue Theatre in Vancouver, Canada. Her complete tour routing can be accessed here.
