For a long time, many of us have realized that no matter how large a city is or how big of a music scene they have, that you’ll consistently see the same people working together. So in knowing that, it’s no surprise that Daniela Hernandez of Rose Ette would form a new solo project with members of Rose Ette and New York City Queens. The project called Bug Bites is a mix of bedroom pop and indie rock that not only meshes well, but also holds your attention on their debut single “Oh Well.” We’ve known a couple of things about Hernandez’ strengths as an artist for a while, and we have used her photographs from concerts in the past for this magazine.
The song has all the touches of indie rock and bedroom pop that Hernandez brought to Rose Ette, while still offering up a new take on both genres. The guitar focused track has an immediate hook and an upbeat pacing before the vocals come in and pull you closer. Of course while the vocals make for a nice touch, it’s the way she builds the verse ahead of the endearing chorus that should lock you in for the catchy and craftily arranged track. Whatever Bug Bites brings to us in the future, we’re in if the songs are written as well as this debut.
The song can be streamed on all platforms including on YouTube, it can be purchased in all online music stores including Bandcamp and the debut cassingle will be made available to the public on August 03. You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram for more updates. Bug Bites is set to perform on July 27 at Satellite Bar and on August 03 at Dan Electros, both in Houston, TX.
