Andy Stack of Wye Oak fame is not far from releasing his solo project into the world with his debut album. Under the name Joyero, the singles have shown an artist who’s willing to expand on what they’ve become known for while giving you some infectious sounds in the process. Now with his full length Release the Dogs out in a couple of weeks, his newest single “Steepest Stairs” and the subsequent video are the most expansive so far.
The video opens with Stack laying in the West Texas grass that’s been under watered by its desert like conditions. As he gets up and runs forward and back, the music echoes a mixture of varying beats and synths alongside a dissonant vocals and piano. The music has this hypnotic texturing that places it into your head while the video shutters and shakes before Stack is floating on screen. The music gives you that floating feeling as well, showcasing the depth of the arrangements, and gearing you for what the album may sound like.
The video can be streamed on YouTube or above, Release the Dogs is available to pre-save on all streaming and digital sites or it can be pre-ordered physically directly from Merge Records ahead of its August 23 release. Joyero will be on tour starting August 08 at Turf Club in Saint Paul, MN until November 23 at Union Craft Brewing in Baltimore, MD. His complete tour dates can be accessed here.
