While Pixies are set to release their new album Beneath the Eyrie in September, the band seems to be hard at work between a podcast and prepping for tour. On their new single “Catfish Kate,” trickles of their earlier sound leak through while the video is an animated bit of intricacy and oddball imagery.
The song has touches of Pixies’ sound from albums like Doolittle and Surfer Rosa, though it’s not a return to those eras either. Acoustic strumming and guitar squeals meet Paz Lenchantin and Black Francis’ vocals, and create a sound that’s catchy and hard to dislike. With the band in full force, it’s a Pixies song that breathes rebirth even if it may remind you of some of their past.
The song can be streamed on all streaming sites, it can be purchased in all digital outlets and Beneath The Eyrie can be pre-ordered directly from the band here. Pixies are on tour starting August 31 in Pasadena, CA at the Pasadena Daydream Festival until March 17, 2020 in Fremantle, WA, Australia at Fremantle Arts Centre. The band’s entire tour can be accessed here.
