With their third full length album Deceiver announced for a release in early October, DIIV has released a second single off the album that when placed next to the lead song, expands their sound further than ever before. With almost contrasting deliveries, the songs make one wonder what Deceiver will ultimately sound like when it sees the light of day.
With “Taker” the band takes on a sound that’s closest to HUM, though there’s more here than just the throttled rock riff. The atmosphere heavy vocals that meander between spacey rhythms and a searing riff are on their own tip, while the band takes you happily own the rabbit hole. On “Skin Game” the band takes a more direct approach, noodling around at the opening before getting more focused as the song ticks along. The long form opening steers closer to Ride before the track opens up and becomes its own. The additional guitar spikes that come in and out are almost as catchy as the jangly notes that came before them. This is DIIV expanding their sound without leaving their past far behind, and it’s all worth digging into.
The two new singles can be streamed on all streaming sites, they can be purchased wherever you download music and Deceiver can be pre-ordered directly from Captured Tracks ahead of its October 04 release. DIIV is on tour starting October 11 in Perris, CA at Desert Daze until December 13 in Sonoma, CA at Sonoma Redwood Barn. The band’s complete tour schedule can be found here.
