When we first wrote about Marie Ulven Ringheim, also known as girl in red, we got a positive response from those who were unfamiliar with the Norwegian artist’s sound. Now with a new album titled Beginnings out today, girl in red has since released a new song called “bad idea!” and it’s definitely a track you’ll like from the start.
The song opens with this sixties garage pop vibe at the beginning. With a thick riff and snappy pacing, the vocals go from dissonant to falsetto in the snap of fingers. It’s about as catchy of a song as you’re going to hear before group vocals and extra instruments come in to take the up chorus to a new place. Ringheim’s voice has weight that you don’t hear much with catchy tunes, yet she has navigated a young career like a veteran and this song is well arranged and written as such.
Beginnings can be purchased on red vinyl directly from girl in red, it can also be purchased in online music stores or streamed on all streaming sites. girl in red is on tour beginning September 07 at The Foundry in Philadelphia, PA until December 05 at Parkteatret Scene in Oslo, Norway. Her complete tour routing can be accessed here.
