Norway’s Jenny Hval has the ability to add little whisps of tone in pretty much every piece of music that she crafts. With her upcoming album The Practice of Love will be released to the world this Friday, and with that the final lead single and video from the album is out. With “Accident,” Hval adds a bit of whimsy to her sound and gives her fans a bit of brightness to add to their day.
The song has a very airy feel without being trite. Hvall dances between lush arrangements and soft notes to build a sound that falls almost perfectly on your senses, while expanding what you may have expected from her. The video, featuring elderly women has a very playful narrative of people communicating through pantomimed experiences. The lyrics are heavy, but the way the video and the song play out, that weight isn’t immediately noticed. With the theme being birth, it is emotionally heavy but doesn’t appear as such.
The video can be viewed above or on YouTube, the song can be purchased in all digital music stores and The Practice of Love is available for pre-order directly from Sacred Bones before its release September 13. Jenny Hval is on tour starting September 20 in Oslo, Norway at Ultima Festival until November 23 in Katowice, Poland at Ars Cameralis Festival. Her complete tour schedule can be found here.
