Portland’s Fox Medicine Drops “Bubblegum Doom” Sound on the Public

We understand if you’ve never heard the music made by Portland’s Fox Medicine. The duo makes a sound that’s dark but also uplifting that you may end up loving after you hear it. In what they describe as “bubblegum doom,” their lead single “Comfort Pony” off their upcoming album Procedures Mystiques is definitely catchy enough to keep you interested from the moment it starts.

The sound is immediate, and lives up to how the band describes themselves. With doom metal streamed through a pop sheen, the duo makes a sound that’s like if a noise pop band smoked lots of weed and channeled their inner doom nerd. The video plays out like a sci-fi horror film with mixtures of the members performing live spliced with shots of them in cloaks performing ritualistic acts. Almost playing out like a recruitment film for a low-budget cult, it’s comical but not cheesy at the same time.

The video can be viewed above or on YouTube, the song is available to stream on all platforms and Procedures Mystiques is available for pre-order directly from Bandcamp ahead of its November 08 release. Fox Medicine will be on tour beginning September 22 at No Fun Bar in Portland, OR until November 17 at Jub Jubs Thirst Parlor in Reno, NV. The band’s complete touring schedule can be located here
