If you’re going to start making blues rock music, you really have to be at least as good as Texas’ Gary Clark Jr. With his new album This Land, he proved real quick that he was above being another guitar slinger with tracks that came closer to Same Cooke than to Muddy Waters. Now with the album streaming epic numbers, he’s released a video for the song “Pearl Cadillac” and it’s as beautiful as the song itself.
Shot in black and white, the video portrays the subtle nuances of the track perfectly, letting the music do the talking. While the imagery is beautiful, the way the narrative plays out is just as pretty, offering shots of the car, Clark Jr. and a moonlit night. Just Clark Jr. singing on a dusty road featuring imagery of a mother and child, the song feels as close to the chest as any video he’s released.
The video can be streamed above or on YouTube, This Land is available to stream or purchase on all digital outlets and it can be picked up physically directly from Warner Records. Gary Clark Jr. is on tour tomorrow in Phoenix, AZ at Comerica Theatre until October 12 in Austin, TX at Austin City Limits Festival Weekend Two. His complete tour schedule can be accessed here.
