Delta Sleep Drops Secret EP Full of Surprises

U.K. four piece Delta Sleep isn’t the type of band that moves slow. After a year of releasing multiple albums, playing over 100 shows and a tour with Mineral they have a new release. The drop, and EP titled Younger Years was recorded quickly and contains some of the band’s stronger written tracks. No lead singles, no videos-just pure music ready for ears filled with graces of math rock, indie rock and emo.

The math rock touched notes of opening track “In The Air” gets bookmarked with emo nuance. The way the guitars noodle beneath a top layer of energetic indie rock stays with you. The long run time with group vocals should remind you of early 2000’s emo before it became co-opted. Where “Constant Dreamer” has this snappy texture that sounds like the band is exploring new territory, “Three Ghosts” actually takes the band’s sound to a more ethereal space. The way the track opens comes closer to a darkwave band than a band like these guys. But soon it turns closer to what you’re used to without straying too far.

Of the eight tracks, the biggest stand out for us came with “Sofa Boy.” Leaning hard on a more emo scale, the band checks all the boxes of the genre while still sounding fresh. With a guitar that at times will remind you of nineties alt rock, the song has a depth that digs with the almost talk-sing vocals. It digs its own hole as it plays out before coming to a near silence that breaks open in the biggest way possible. If Younger Years is what happens when then band works quickly, we say keep that going.

Younger Years can be purchased directly from Big Scary Monsters, it can be streamed on all streaming platforms and purchased digitally from all online music shops. Delta Sleep is on tour beginning November 18 at Compass in Osaka, Japan until April 12 in Mexico City, Mexico at an unknown location. Their complete tour schedule can be located here
