Black Kite Returns Darker & More Focused on New Single

It’s been a minute since we heard new music from Texas’ Black Kite. At times elusive, the producer has made appearances in several immersive theater pieces but really only performed traditionally once last year. One of the more intriguing singer songwriters we’ve come across, her new single “Nothing Happened” is powerfully dark and emotionally haunting.

The song has the haunting effects that the producer’s music has always contained. While the initial vocals utilize a tone that’s closest to PJ Harvey, the in and out passes of vocals are their own thing. When she opens up her voice has soft notes and a tender openness. When she stays terse in the verse, there’s a gut wrenching honesty that’s hard to walk away from. The synths here are dark while never being too slow while the swaths of vocals create their own rhythm. The melodic notes that play underneath reveal a masterful approach that we wish we could hear more of.

“Nothing Happened” is available to purchase digitally from all online music retailers and it can be streamed on all streaming platforms. There are no live dates scheduled for Black Kite for now, though following them on Instagram will keep you updated.
