It’s not often that you come across a band quite like Austin’s The Deer. The five piece densely crafts songs that are full of folk based notes and psych based melodies. With a new album Do No Harm set for release in November, their latest single “Confetti to the Hurricane” proves they’re ready to take on a larger audience.
The track opens like it’s coming out the back of a truck rolling down the road. There’s free sense to how it plays out. The way the vocals dance off of the noodled guitar and hook filled stride makes for a magical sound. The backing vocals stay in the pocket, the drums stay snappy and the additional instrumentation creates a broad tone. The band is definitely showing their abilities as multiple hooks exist here while still sounding natural. Swarms of sounds come and go and the choral tones of the secondary vocals are light. The overall structure of the song is hard to forget well after it plays.
The song can be streamed on all platforms, it can be purchased in all digital outlets and Do No Harm can be pre-ordered from Keeled Scales ahead of its November 01 release. The Deer will be on tour beginning October 18 at Antone’s in Austin, TX until November 14 at Utopiafest in Burnet, TX. The band’s complete tour schedule can be found here.
