It seems like the plan to steadily release singles throughout the year is a good one for Lucy Dacus. The singer songwriter has garnered praise for much of what she’s dropped this year. Now with a new EP titled 2019 on its way, Dacus has released a haunting cover of the Phil Collins classic “In The Aire Tonight” that you need to check out.
With this cover, Dacus makes the track her own. Stripping away some of the original touches for a more modernized sound, it’s the same but oh so very different. Dacus’ vocals create a depth with a tone that sounds like they’re coming from down a hallway. In a way, there’s a heft here that the original didn’t incorporate. Her voice feels more personified through an emotional lens. The synths sway and cut through like saws cutting into wood. It all works and showcases Dacus’ depths as a singer and performer.
The song is available to stream wherever you stream music and it can be purchased in all digital outlets. 2019 is available for pre-order directly from Matador Records ahead of its November 08 release. Lucy Dacus is on tour from tonight at Headliners Music Hall in Louisville, KY until December 07 at 9:30 Club in Washington. DC. Her complete live appearance schedule can be accessed here.
