Squirrel Flower Announces New Album & Unleashes Riveting New Song

For anyone paying attention, there’s always new music in our midst. An artist we noticed last year and we’ve kept an eye on has been Boston’s Squirrel Flower. The deep emotions that swirl throughout her indie rock shredding cannot be dismayed, and her sound is warm and inviting. Now after inking with Polyvinyl Records she’s announced a debut album I Was Born Swimming set for a January release and she’s released the lead single “Red Shoulder.”

The distorted tones that open the song are filled with wonder. Met with vocals that feel tender and earnest, the song quickly opens up to a sound that has warm tones and an upbeat pacing. The push and pull of crashing notes and soft vocals play throughout while drawing your attention. The song is well arranged and focused, making us more curious over what the Gabe Wax produced album will ultimately sound like.

The video can be viewed at YouTube or above. I Was Born Swimming can be preordered directly from Polyvinyl Records on multiple formats before its January 31 release. Squirrel Flower is on tour tonight in Columbus, OH at The Big Room Bar until April 11 in Montreal, QC at Casa Del Popolo. Her complete tour routing can be accessed here
