Canadian indie rockers Wolf Parade have never really followed the path others expected of them. Even with their albums, there’s always been a distinct drive into where they take each release. Now with their new single “Against the Day,” they get real synth heavy and take your ears to a space that’s a bit of a throwback without coming off as relics in the process.
The track is a bop for sure. The multiple synths employed offer a pulsating sound that’s only bookmarked by a driving beat that lies underneath and the dark vocals from singers Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug. Those alternating vocals offer a depth that synth driven music sometimes misses, yet here it not only signals the band’s return but offers more weight to their already intelligent sound.
“Against the Day” is available to purchase digitally from Sub Pop Records. It can also be purchased in all digital outlets or streamed wherever you stream music. Wolf Parade is on tour beginning March 02 at Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht, Netherlands until March 15 at The Button Factory in Dublin, Ireland. The band’s tour schedule can be accessed here.
