It’s been a minute since the debut album by LA producer composer Katie Gately dropped, but since then she’s still been busy. With remix work for Bjork and Zola Jesus as well as production work for serpentwithfeet, it’s definitely time for her to release new material. Her new single “Bracer” is just that alongside news that she has a new album titled Loom set for release in February.
The track clocks in at over ten and a half minutes, yet it doesn’t feel that long as the song plays out. The dark electronica elements that build the song have a very ominous presence that stirs your soul. While the vocals have a haunting feel, the overall impression of the track is that it’s as diverse and divisive as anything Gately has released. Multiple underpinned tones and dark beats swirl throughout, creating a world that feels treacherous. Gately has no problem holding your ears until the end, which is heavier than you may expect.
“Bracer” is available to stream above or on YouTube while Loom can be preordered directly from Houndstooth ahead of its February 14 release. No tour information has been made available just yet, though that should change.
