We think that music thrives from solo projects, and when bands take new turns away from their fous, it can create magic. Wye Oak has always been a band that we find endearing in how they not only compose music, but how they operate as well. After time away from the group with Andy Stack’s project Joyero and Jen Wasner’s time with Bon Iver, the duo is back. Their new song “Fortune” recaptures much of the energy the duo had when the band began while looking ahead to the future.
The song expands what you love about the duo. With a fuller sound and a more focused direction, there’s plenty of hooks within the more exploration delved nature of the track. The way the drums and multiple guitars mesh with Wasner’s vocals creates a tone that’s difficult to dislike while taking the band’s sound further while adding depth at the same time.
“Fortune” is available to stream on all platforms or to purchase digitally from Merge Records or from all digital outlets. Wye Oak will tour with a new concept called JOIN, where a larger band will perform songs from the duo’s catalog as well as their respective solo projects. The tour begins on February 27 at The Mothlight in Asheville, NC and runs until March 25 at Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, CA. Their complete tour schedule can be accessed here.
