Time goes by fast. It seems just like yesterday we were hearing the debut release from Kansas City’s Giants Chair for the first time. Truth be told, it’s been twenty-three years since the emo veterans who played alongside bands like Boys Life and Jimmy Eat World were active. However now, the trio is back with a new album Prefabylon due in December and two new songs that signal they’re ready for what’s next.
The first song “Dirty Winter” redefines the band’s off beat sounds from the past. The guitars tuned down, skipping around the scales with precision and intensity. The band changes between quick and medium pacing, giving you a taste of where they come from in terms of sound. The second song and the latest single “Kids Running” takes a more traditional approach. Straightforward and more direct in how it plays out, the band has the same intensity they had in the nineties, but with a more terse direction. It’s the best example of a band mixing who they were and who they are together without sounding dated at the same time.
Both songs can be streamed on all platforms and Prefabylon is available for preorder directly from Spartan Records ahead of its December 06 release. Giants Chair are on tour November 22 at The Heavy Anchor in Saint Louis, MO until November 29 at The Brick in Kansas City, MO. Their complete tour schedule is available here.
