Bands like the Hot Snakes don’t really follow the conventional norms of the record industry. After their return to performing and their full length Jericho Sirens, it seems that the band can’t get enough of performing. Ahead of a run of dates in December, they’ve just released a killer new song called “Checkmate” that should make any fan of the band happy.
That twangy and uncoupled tuned guitar opens things before the rest of the band hops in to meet Rick Froberg’s vocals. The intense and at times immense energy from the band is still here. The track clocks in at a couple of hairs under the three minute mark, but it’s everything you want from the band. The jangled tones, the vocals in your face and the rock markers that make any track they perform their own.
“Checkmate” is available as a very limited edition vinyl seven inch directly from the band at their shows. It can also be streamed on all platforms or purchased digitally in all outlets or directly from Sub Pop. Hot Snakes are on tour December 03 in Nottingham, UK at Bodega until December 15 in Cambridge, UK at Portland Arms. The band’s complete tour routing is available here.
