Spoon Unearths 2002 B-Side Demo of Rarely Heard Track

In the space between recording a new album and curating their best of collection, Everything Hits At Once, Spoon must have dug deep. Since the compilation’s release the band has been steadily dropping demos from the past. Now the band has routed out a B-Side demo for the song “Is This The Last Time?” The B-side for the “Someone Something” seven inch, the song has all of the makings of the original but with a twist.

This version feels more raw and personal. While few have heard the original version, here Daniel has a more echoed vocal that touches on the lo-fi leanings of the band in that era. The drums sound like a machine and they’re less pronounced. Other than that, the song is pretty close to the original from the Kill The Moonlight time from the band. When the drums pick up they sound like real drums, but it’s shocking how it sounds like the final take before mixing than a regular demo.

The song can be streamed on all streaming sites. Everything Hits At Once: The Best of Spoon is available for purchase directly from Matador Records. It can also be purchased in all digital outlets or streamed on all sites. Spoon is performing tonight in Boise, ID at Knitting Factory Boise and at Intersect Festival in Las Vegas, NV on December 07.
