Angel Olsen Performs Two Songs Off All Mirrors on Kimmel

We can safely state that All Mirrors by Angel Olsen is one of our favorite releases of 2019. With swooping tones and a change in sound, Angel Olsen is swooning all who catch her perform the new songs in person. Now in the midst of her large scale tour, she’s stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform two of those tracks and the results are magnificent.

On “Chance,” Olsen stays in line with how the song showcases her vocals on the album. The slower and more tender sounding track is backed by minimal instrumentation that quietly builds sounds underneath the vocals. The addition of strings just adds to the heft of the song, giving Olsen more of a symphonic touch that works well in this setting. The build that comes in the song is just as epic here, forcing her voice to hit high notes while her lower register presents a calming presence.

For “Summer,” Olsen mixes things up a bit. Opening with Olsen on guitar, the electronic dissonance from the album is gone and here it holds a more organic composure. This version hits a bit stronger than the album version with the live traditional instrumentation clicking a perfect balance between the vocals and the strings. There’s weight to this performance in that Olsen sounds powerful while maintaining a bit of her former sound at the same time.

Both videos can be viewed on YouTube or above. All Mirrors can be streamed on all platforms or purchased in all digital outlets. The physical album is available directly from Jagjaguwar. Angel Olsen is on tour tonight in Los Angeles, CA at The Palace Theatre until July 22 in Brooklyn, NY at BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn Festival. Her complete tour dates can be accessed here.
