Depending on what you’re paying attention to, there’s a good chance that you’re not familiar with the music of Australia’s Cable Ties. Mixing feminism, environmentalism and politics into their raw punk sound, they’ve just signed with Merge Records and released a killer new song “Tell Them Where To Go.”
The track has plenty of raw energy that gets things started. The trio utilizes a mix of punk and post-punk to eviscerate everything in their wake. The way the drums sound like they’re recorded live in a fallout shelter, the way the bass has this murky ring and the way the guitar squeals as it begins all give the track weight. The pacing is up but the track isn’t poppy or even mainstream in any way. With vocals screamed and the structure steering closer to traditional punk, the song won’t leave your head after you hear it one time.
The song is available to stream on all platforms and it can be purchased digitally directly from Merge Records. Cable Ties is appearing at The Tote in Collingwood, VIC, Australia on New Year’s Eve and at SXSW in Austin, TX on March 13 through 22.
