There’s multiple versions of doom that fall within the genre if you dig deep enough. One of those subgenres is pastoral doom, though it’s rarely heard from and it hardly gets done in a way that’s engaging. With a new album announced on Thrill Jockey for February, Wrekmeister Harmonies will give us plenty to dive into on We Love to Look at the Carnage. With the album ready for preorder, the band now featuring Thor Harris and Jaime Stewart of Xiu Xiu has released a new song “Coyotes of Central Park” that should give you glimpse into their dark sound.
The meticulous way in which the track begins gets bookmarked with ominous tones. The vocals have a weight that steer the track alongside the careful arrangements, giving way to a well planned darkness. There’s a mix of somber notes and carefully graced tones that holds your ears without being pop in its direction. The track gives a primary glimpse into what the group’s new album could sound like, making you eager for all of what that could mean.
The song can be streamed above or purchased digitally. We Love to Look at the Carnage is available to preorder directly from Thrill Jockey ahead of its February 21 release. Wrekmeister Harmonies is on tour beginning December 21 in New York, NY at Saint Vitus Bar until April 15 in Koln, DE at MTC. The band’s entire tour schedule can be located here.
