Most people know Frances Quinlan from her band, Hop Along. While the music made by Hop Along has always held a place in the heart, Quinlan’s new solo work is something else entirely. While some of the quirks of Hop Along’s sound are here, her upcoming full length Likewise is an album most should be looking forward to. On her new single “Your Reply,” Quinlan perks your ears in a couple of weeks before the record’s release.

There’s a mix of guitars and organ here that just creates a wondrous opening. Throw in Quinlan’s easy going vocals and the song is already a winner from the jump. Cathcy but not pop, tender but not soaking with emotion and upbeat but not too sweet, the song works on multiple levels. High points come with the sing song pacing and Quinlan getting raspy voiced in some parts. It’s all here, it’s beautiful and makes anyone who hears it ready for the full length.

Likewise is available for preorder on multiple formats directly from Saddle Creek Records ahead of its January 31 release date.
