Australia’s Gordi has never really released bad music. Over the years her vocals have done most of the speaking, giving way to some of the best sounding songs to come from down under. On her new single “The Cost,” it’s apparent that the singer songwriter could have a bright year, while we get to take it all in. Released for Australia’s Bushfire Relief, the track and its video offer stirring imagery that show why we should all donate to help the cause.
There’s a magic in how the song rolls out. Between piano and vocals, the song washes over you like sunshine. There’s a slow build that you can’t help but follow intently, while Gordi draws you closer with each tender note. The honesty in the words, the highs feel more personal and without restraint. It’s as if you’re the recipient of a letter from the singer, and you’re only who she’s singing to. The doubled vocals in the last refrain are perfectly balanced between opening and ending.
The song can be streamed above or on all platforms. The song is for Australian Bushfire relief, with all proceeds from its sales going to combat the travesty down under. It can be purchased in all digital outlets or from Bandcamp as well. You can also help out Australia by donating to the NSW Rural Fire Service here.
