In the world of singer songwriters, you can get lost in the genre. The phrase could bog down an artist if they aren’t at the top of their game with arrangements and lyrics. Luckily for us, Andy Shauf is at the top of his game. With his new album The Neon Skyline coming next week, his latest single “Living Room” emotes tones that remind you of Paul Simon and Randy Newman without feeling like a lift.
The way Shauf lays this track out contains plenty of magical elements. The acoustic guitar that intermingles with the piano and the drums lays the ground for his voice to dance in with ease. The easy going stride mixed with how soft Shauf’s vocals sound pulls you in before brass comes in and really opens the song up. Shauf is definitely pulling from another era here, though it works and exemplifies his sound with perfectly arranged notes.
The song can be streamed on all platforms and The Neon Skyline is available for preorder directly from Anti Records before its January 24 release. Andy Shauf will be on tour beginning February 07 at Ace of Cups in Columbus, OH until May 16 at Colony in Woodstock, NY. His complete tour dates can be accessed here.
