A couple of years ago we were introduced to the music of Sophie Allison from a friend, and since then we’ve been happy to see the rise of her project Soccer Mommy. Now with a new label and a large scale tour booked, their new single “circle the drain” from their newly announced album color theory is out, and much like its video the future looks bright for the youthful band.
The song has a much larger production feel, but it’s not glossy or overdone either. Picking up where the band left off in terms of sound, the happy-go-lucky pacing gets met with Allison’s vocals in a bright and well placed way. The verse plays out magically among the hook filled notes. Allison is definitely staying true to her indie rock roots while adding stronger vocals and a more pronounced brand at the same time. In fact, her vocals hit harder in the chorus here than they ever have before. The video, filmed at an abandoned water park has all the trappings of youth set free, while Allison navigates the area surrounding everyone.
The video for “circle the drain” can be viewed above or on YouTube. The song can be streamed on all platforms. color theory is available in multiple bundles and formats for preorder directly from Loma Vista Recordings before its February 28 release. Soccer Mommy is on tour starting March 16 in Austin, TX at SXSW until June 24 in Manchester, UK at Gorilla. Their complete tour schedule is located here.
