For those in the new, the music of Red Baraat is on another level. Mixing multiple tones, their composer and bandleader Sunny Jain has a similar sound that’s hard not to like. Now with a new solo album Wild Wild East coming in February, the Brooklyn based composer just dropped a new single, and “Wild Wild East” should leave you in a state after you hear it.
The song opens with a more bombastic tone than you may expect. The multiple swaths of vocals that build above the heavy instrumentation transform you. They wash over you like the breath of a goddess before the track changes direction a bit and heads into a more open sound. The stabs of jazz structure amidst the Indian folk notes is simply magical. The video has imagery that blends perfectly with the chaotic yet hymnal graces of the song.
The video can be seen above or on YouTube. The song can be streamed on all streaming sites. Wild Wild East is available for preorder directly from Smithsonian Folkways before its February 21 release. Sunny Jain is on tour March 05 at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, PA until March 22 at SF Jazz Center in San Francisco, CA. His complete live dates can be located here.
